Case Studies Aqueduct Marina Church Minshull

Aqueduct Marina Church Minshull

This 150 berth marina is located in the beautiful Cheshire countryside off the Middlewich Branch of the Shropshire Union Canal, 5 miles north of Nantwich. From original concept through to final construction, we worked with the client to design and develop this modern award winning facility.

After a successful planning application, the construction phase was fraught with unique challenges to overcome. The marina footprint was over existing workshops and storage yards which had to be maintained at all times until the new buildings were completed. Careful planning and co-ordination was required during the demolition stage – especially as we lifted, crushed and recycled all hardstands and superstructures where possible. The marina basin required over 60,000m3 of material to be carefully deposited to design levels in adjacent fields with dust and noise pollution being controlled at all times.

Perimeter sheet piling with an inset concrete capping lined the perimeter with a purpose designed stop plank structure linking the marina to the canal.

Timer jetties on steel piles formed rigid platforms to access the boats with electric and water services distributed to each mooring. An extensive purpose made facilities building was designed and constructed to provide office and retail space as well as a café and seating area. Water source heat pumps were used to power the underfloor heating. Extensive road, carparks, paving and landscaping all contributed to a high quality much sought after marina.
