Located on the picturesque River Lee Navigation near Waltham Abbey, Broxbourne Sailing Club were experiencing ongoing erosion of the river bank in front of their club house. The existing bank walling had been undermined and was collapsing into the water making it difficult to access boats as well as making it hazardous for windsurfers to enter the water.
A bespoke system was developed involving substantial gabion baskets filled with clean stone held in place by intermittent cantilever sheet piling. The top of the baskets were carefully overlaid with a timber decking supported on timber bearers to maintain a more natural feel to the finished article.
The end results were a vast improvement on the original dilapidated banks and much appreciated by the club and its members who can now safely get on with the job of sailing boats.
